  • Island Lake State Recreation Area
    • The area just south of the entrance toll both has supported breeding PRAIRIE WARBLERS in past years although not in the last three. ORCHARD ORIOLES and CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS have been observed in the field areas south of the Kent Lake parking areas during migration.   • Brighton State Recreation Area
    • Brighton Recreation Area is a 4,947 acre State Recreation Area administered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.   • Kensington Metropark
    • The western portion of Kensington Metro Park nature center resides within the county with the remainder of the park being contained within Oakland County.   • Huron Meadows Metro Park
    • Unlike Kensington, Huron Meadows Metro Park resides completely within the county. This park is located on both the north and south sides of Hammel Road. The south side of the park captures a section of the Huron River basin. Nesting BARRED and GREAT HORNED OWLS are regular here. PILEATED WOODPECKERS and RUFFED GROUSE have been found on occasion as well. Additionally, this is a good spot for spring migrants.
